Company member, Director of Operations
Audrey Johnston is thrilled to enter into her seventh year of dancing with RACE Dance Company. Audrey began her training under Bryan Pitts and Viktoria Page of Ballet Oklahoma at the age of three. She furthered her training across the nation at many schools including the Joffrey School, the International Ballet Competition, Jillana, and Atlanta Ballet to name a few. Her hard work led her to an apprenticeship with Oklahoma City Ballet before graduating high school, and a Company Dancer position for the following five years, including soloist roles in Bryan Pitts’ and Robert Mills’ versions of The Nutcracker as Spanish, Chinese, and Dew Drop, Jacob Sparso’s The Wizard of Oz as the Wicked Witch of the West, and soloist roles in the contemporary works Zephyrus and Voila by world-renowned guest choreographers Helen Pickett and Jessica Lang respectively.
She then joined RACE while completing her degree in Chemistry- Health Sciences at University of Central Oklahoma and graduating Magna cum Laude. With RACE, she has danced in guest pieces by the renowned Jeremy Duvall, Will Johnston, and Destini Rogers, among others. In 2016, she toured to Los Angeles dancing in a piece by Hui Cha Poos in the production +3, Quartets by Adam Parson’s Commonality Dance Company. She has had the great opportunity to choreograph on all three of Oklahoma City’s professional dance companies to critical acclaim. To supplement her love affair with dance, she has used her science degree to research tissue regeneration at Rice University, transgenics and corneal barrier function at OU Health Sciences Center, and the genetics of autoimmune diseases at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. She also obtained a Masters in Business Administration at the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University this year, and plans to use her strange and varied collection of expertise to help RACE become a pillar of arts and community in Oklahoma City.
